Using an approach akin to photojournalism, I photograph the offbeat: concerts, spectacle, other non-normative performance, and alternative events. Nothing scripted. Nothing posed. Just honest, emotionally alive moments.
I’m certainly enthralled with spectacle.
Artists engaged in their craft, spectators fully immersed in revelry, the synergy created between the two.
But I’m more moved by the unseen.
The person behind the performer. The heartwork involved in creating. Their relationship with art itself. Their how. Their why. Their transformation from person to persona.
By the community.
The community of people who make performance possible. The labor they contribute. Their dedication to each other. Their dedication to the arts, and their desire to platform them.
By liberation.
What is art if not liberation? And the offbeat? It’s entirely unfettering. I’m forever inspired by performers who embody liberation and, in doing so, invite others along.

Today a photographer, I was once a band nerd, a choir nerd, even a drama nerd. That was a long time ago now, but I remember the feeling of stepping out on stage. The anxiety. The excitement. A deep sense of vulnerability. Performance isn’t simply an artist’s craft. It’s their heart. On display. For everyone to see.
To say that I document performance feels inadequate. While I do, I prefer to think of my job as more than mere documentation. I prefer to think of it as an act of quiet solidarity. As a supportive practice. One that recognizes the courage involved in making art and sharing it publicly.
With that in mind, I make myself available to photograph all stages of a production — including concept development, table work, dress rehearsals, performances, and beyond. Essentially, for everything from the 2AM coffee-fueled writing session to the post-production celebration of a kick-ass performance!
