Street | South, Southeast, and East Asia

I began dabbling in street photography only after moving abroad in 2009. By dabbling I mean my camera rarely made it out the door of my flat. I was working long hours as an ESL teacher and had a toddler and a spouse at home. Both of whom I missed terribly while at work and wanted to spend time with. The hours of the day were simply too few, and I didn’t want to risk losing myself in a photographic moment. Because I would have! Nevertheless, opportunities were had. And for them, I’m grateful. But I digress. I’m drawn by curiosity to the cultural topography of place. To the human experience as it unfolds in an environment. To the human capacity for variety. It’s variety that imbues the world with beauty, and variety that is on display in the streets. This is true both at home and abroad and to have photographed streets around the world has been a privilege. The following is a gallery of favorites from my time living and traveling in Asia.
